Assessments - Proctoring

You should create an option in assessments where you can click on the assignment and select gallery/grid view and get little tiny image previews of completed work. For certain assignments, teachers could see at a glance if they are complete or not, instead of clicking 10 million times like we need to now.

I wish Otus would offer the ability to proctor students live. For example, easily being able to see what questions students are getting right and wrong live.

Live monitoring of assessments

It would be super helpful to be able to digitally proctor an assessment; if I can see what answers all students are choosing all at once, then if I see multiple students making the same error, I can stop them and correct what's happening before they submit.

Live Proctoring Assessment

It would be great to have a live proctoring option during assessments. I would like to be able to watch the class in a grid like view as they answer each question. It helps to see who is speeding through the assessment as well as if a large percentage is missing a certain question. I can stop them and have everyone refer back to that question.

That would be great

Thank you so much for submitting this idea and to others for the additional comments! Are there digital tools you've used in the past for this that you like? If so, what did you like and dislike about it? I'm also hearing that question performance and speed of completion are two important signals you'd look for in this eagle-eyed view. Are there other signals important to you?

Gillian McGalliard
Stephanie Baeza, UX Researcher Our district was previously using Illuminate so I've attached a photo of their live proctoring screen that we are used to seeing. It's especially helpful for seeing when a student has been stuck on a particular problem for an extended amount of time or is completing questions too quickly!

Stephanie Baeza, UX Researcher I would not need a signal to show speed that the assessment was completed if I had access to live proctoring. The screenshot from Gillian McGalliard is what we are accustomed to. It is immensely helpful in monitoring student speed, giving live feedback, and correcting student misconceptions. Otus is also lacking in reports that can be printed and sent home to update families on student progress. At this time, we have been asked NOT to allow parents to login to Otus, so we are struggling with an efficient way to inform parents of student progress on assessments. It would be very helpful to have a PDF report that could be downloaded to show a student's performance on an individual assessment. Thank you!

Gillian McGalliard Thanks so much for the additional information! Is this something you would use for every assessment, or only certain ones (like summative unit tests vs formative quizzes)?

Stephanie Baeza, UX Researcher
ALISON HARDIN Thank you for the additional information! You also noted wanting an easier way to print a report of student performance on an individual assessment. Ideally, would this include all the assessment content (ex. all the questions and the student's answers and whether it was incorrect or correct) or would it be more of a summary? What information would be most ideal to send to families in the PDF report? Are there other ways you might use this type of report?

ALISON HARDIN
Stephanie Baeza, UX Researcher It would be AMAZING if all assessment content could be included without making a report that was 3 or more pages per student. The essentials for my team would be standard, assessment name, percent/number of items scored (for example 13/13 or 100% mastery), and student name. This report would also be extremely helpful for providing evidence for multi-tiered systems of support meetings. We use student mastery of grade level standards to support decisions for interventions and also enrichment. While teachers can see this information on our end, having a report to be able to share at a meeting (and with all stakeholders) would be very helpful! This report could be included as physical documentation if that makes sense.

I too agree that life proctoring is necessary. Not only does it give us feedback on the student, but it gives feedback on what we can improve instructionally.

ALISON HARDIN
Live proctoring would be a huge help! Being able to view students’ progress as they are on an assessment is a very powerful tool for correcting student misconceptions on a certain item/skill in real time.

Assessments - Show progress while taking assessment

Michelle George
Would like to be able to see the progress of the assessment while students are taking the assessment. Example given was if a teacher noticed that the majority of the students were missing a question they could stop the class and redirect during the test. (San Jacinto)

Jasper Lucas
Echo Michelle George above. From San Jacinto, our teachers are viewing assessments as a means to address learning misconceptions in real time. We prefer to be able to address misconceptions before tests are submitted and grades are posted. If one of the goals of assessments is to determine skills or standards that need to be retaught, then this feature is essential in being able to do that.
