Advanced Assessment - Increase Character Limit for Short Answer Question
A
Alexandra Chernouski
When creating an assessment, I chose the short answer question type because I wanted students to write a few sentences, not a whole essay. When students started taking the test, I found out that OTUS automatically set a character limit without me telling it to (that alone is frustrating, but I can deal with it now that I know). When I tried to fix the character limit, I couldn't input a number bigger than 250. This is an issue becuase if students are writing "short" answers with complex vocabulary that will push their character count higher. Ideally, there would be no default character limit and it would be a feature that is turned on by the teacher. At a minimum, I should be able to choose whatever character limit I want based on how I know students will answer

Thank you for leaving this feedback Alexandra Chernouski! Learnosity is our partner for the Advanced Assessment builder and we can look into the flexibility of the character limit for Short Text. In the meantime, perhaps the Essay with Plain Text question type, which can have up to 10,000 words, could be an alternative option. Here's a help center article in case it's helpful: https://help.otus.com/en/articles/1911314-essay-with-plain-text-question-for-advanced-assessments
